Upon arriving at Bakili Muluzi International Airport (former Chileka International Airport) in Blantyre, a guide from Malawi on Wheels will greet you and assist with your luggage as you head to your vehicle. After exchanging pleasantries, you will be taken to Kara O Mula Country Lodge at the foot of Mulanje Mountain. The drive will take approximately 3 hours.

A challenging but rewarding day hike through lush montane forests leads to Dziwe la Nkhalamba, a legendary, crystal-clear mountain pool nestled in a granite amphitheater. It is just next to Likhubula falls where the falls drains its water straight into the Dziwe la Nkhalamba. The Dam; Dziwe la Nkhalamba could be 10 metres but not more than 15 metres in diameter. It is believed the dam is 65 metres deep.

The refreshing climb offers stunning peak views, culminating in a refreshing swim or peaceful rest beside the sacred "Old Man’s Pool," blending natural beauty with local myth for an unforgettable Mount Mulanje experience. Returning to the lodge later in the day.

After breakfast, your journey continues to Majete Wildlife Reserve - one of Malawi's top wildlife destinations, traversing through picturesque tea plantations, offering a glimpse of Malawi's agricultural heartland. Upon arrival, immerse yourself in a thriving ecosystem where flourishing wildlife populations and exceptional birdlife showcase the reserve's remarkable transformation through dedicated conservation efforts. The drive will take about 4 hours.

A classic tented camp in the prime wildlife area and conservation success that is Majete Wildlife Reserve. Thawale Lodge is a peaceful haven from which you can experience Majete Wildlife Reserve, a completely unfenced camp that provides guests with a unique experience in natural surroundings.

The lodge offers eight tented chalets and two purpose-built air-conditioned chalets for families – each with two en-suite bedrooms, lounge, and veranda overlooking the waterhole. Located in the southern part of Malawi on the banks of Shire River and Lake Malombe. Liwonde National is Malawi’s wildlife premier destination. The 580 sq km wildlife reserve is home to over 400 species of bird, a dense population of hippos, crocodiles, large numbers of elephants and a variety of antelope species. There is regular sightings of lions, cheetahs, and black rhinos.

Mvuu Camp is set amongst large, shady trees along the banks of the surging Shire River. The camp offers a charming setting for those wishing to explore the country’s premier wildlife haven. The impressive thatched dining and lounge area offers magnificent vistas over the river, framed by two large baobab trees. The camp’s inviting pool is ideal for those wishing to cool off. The camp is completed by a traditional dining under the stars. The camp offers an impressive atmosphere, lively and dynamic.

Today you will be transferred by boat across the Shire River, where you will meet your guide. After greetings, you will embark on a 4-hour drive to Cape Maclear – a gateway to the UNESCO World Heritage Site - Lake Malawi National Park. You will take a 45-minute boat ride to Mumbo Island, an exclusive retreat located in clear waters rich with endemic cichlid fish.

Mumbo Island Lodge is a pristine and deserted tropical island, and the undisputed jewel of the Lake Malawi National Park. The Island has never been populated, and is in its natural state with thick covering of Miombo woodland, ancient fig and baobab trees.

The five reed chalets are situated on the tiny islet of “Jumbo”, reached by a wooden bridge from Mumbo’s main beach. The dining area, lounge and forest chalet are tucked into the forest on the main island. Chalets are set as far apart from one another as possible to guarantee privacy. Each chalet has its own en-suite bathroom, deck with hammock and a spectacular view over the turquoise waters of Mumbo. The lodge cater for every comfort whilst keeping everything as simple and local as possible.

All good things must come to an end! Your Malawi journey draws to a close today with an early breakfast at Mumbo Island. You will be transferred on a boat to the mainland, where your guide waits for your check-out formalities. You will then embark on a 4-hour drive to Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe for your flight back home, arriving in time for your departure flight.
