Huntingdon House has Five unique suites with superb bathrooms. Each room has been individually decorated to reflect the quirks and character of this grand residence appropriately named based on their original function in the household. Each area of the house has a story of its own from the original children’s nursery to the resident priest’s quarters and private Chapel. Guests are encouraged to share the colourful history of one of Malawi’s oldest homes while being spoilt by Huntingdon’s team of professional staff.

Things To Do

Located between Blantyre and Mount Mulanje, in what is arguably the most beautiful region of Malawi as the administrative capital of the Thyolo District. The area is best known for its historical tea as it dates back as far as the early 1900’s. With its landscape of the undulating hills and immaculately kept region is a pleasure to explore by bike, vehicle, or on foot. Magnificent views of Mount Mulanje at distance are a highlight of the region, as are excellent opportunities for birding, hiking and mountain biking.

  • Tea tasting at the Factory, One of the not-to-be-missed experiences unique to staying on a tea growing estate. This is a definite for tea enthusiasts and simple occasional tea drinkers alike.

  • Bicycle riding, You can choose the trail and length of time you wish to be out, while we will provide the bikes, helmets, water bottles and advice about routes and areas to explore. Enjoy!

  • Birding, An ornithologists' paradise, the varied vegetation on the estate provides ideal habitats for a variety of Malawi's bird species including the little-known bird of Africa’s disappearing montane evergreen forests, the Thyolo Alethe (Alethe choloensis)

  • Hiking, With over 105 miles of dirt roads and hundreds more paths and tracks, Satemwa is a fantastic and diverse place to explore on foot.
