At the quiet intersection of the Namagogodo Lagoon and the Shire River, you’ll find Mvuu Lodge. A unique site is home to a whole host of wildlife as it makes its way in and out of the river on a daily basis.

Mvuu Lodge offers a luxurious stay and an intimate getaway in a secluded setting in Liwonde National Park, Malawi’s premier wildlife area. The lodge overlooks a tranquil lagoon, in an area surrounded by lush vegetation and towering Borassus palms.

The lodge facilities include two stunning wooden dining decks, one at ground level and another sheltered amongst the trees, both offering a panoramic view in the wildlife-filled Mvuu lagoon and of the Shire River.

A wooden pathway over the lagoon will lead you to a refreshing swimming pool and sunbeds, nestled between fever trees. Animal’s love spending time around it too! The path continues, taking you to a relaxing and mindfulness-infused yoga deck built entirely with local materials.

Accommodation

Accommodation at Mvuu Lodge comprises of eight tents, one of which is a romantic honeymoon suite. Each tent has on en-suite bathroom facilities and a private deck that overlooks the water’s edge, and three of the tents are fitted with plunge pools.

The bathrooms also offer splendid views and are well equipped with a bathtub, double shower and double sink, and the spacious lounge area offers further comfort for those wishing to relax in the room.

Activities at the Mvuu Lodge include boat safaris, guided walks, birding, and traditional day and night game drives. Additional activities including the Shire River Trail, Visit to Njobvu Cultural Village Lodge and Nanthomba School.

Game Drives

Morning and evening game drives

Led by experienced and knowledgeable safari guides, enjoy the morning and afternoon game drive that extends to sundowner and evening drive, allows you to experience the wonders and the magic of Liwonde National Park.

Enjoy the drives as you observe a wide variety of wildlife, including elephants, lions, and rhinos in their natural habitat.

Walking Safaris

Guided walks provide a more intimate experience, allowing guests to learn about the flora and fauna up close.

While on a walking safari, your guides will be extremely vigilant about established safety procedures.

The chance of encountering dangerous animals (which will be given a wide berth) is far less than during a game drive.

When To Visit

Mvuu Lodge in Liwonde National Park is open all year round. While the lodge is open throughout the year, the best time to visit for game viewing is generally during the dry season, which runs from May to November. April is a good time to visit if you're looking for a less crowded experience and lower prices, as the bush is still green and lush.
