
Located along the picturesque Bua River, in the Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve, Malawiโs oldest and largest wildlife reserve, a protected area managed by African Parks. Bua River Lodge offers comfortable en-suite tented chalet accommodation with outdoor showers, private verandas, and breathtaking views. As the seasonal river ebbs and flows, crocodiles bask in the sun, fish eagles soar majestically overhead, and elephants roam free. Bua River Lodge is completely unfenced and the place is the potential proximity to wild animals, there are no boundaries and we share the river banks with all the animals of the reserve.

Accommodation
Bua River Lodge offers full board accommodation in comfortable, secluded, thatch-covered safari tents. Each tent is located to provide the most privacy, within the woodland, along the river or on a small island that is accessible by a bridge in the wet season.



Each tent is equipped with ensuite outdoor ablution facilities, (plus hot showers), private deck. Lounge area (only in the larger tents) and comfortable beds with high quality linen. All tents have window screens to keep out mosquitoes and other bugs.
Bua River Lodge is a great place to relax and enjoy nature, with only the wilderness and river visible and audible.
The Common Area
The lodge features a main area designed as a gazebo, which includes the reception, bar, dining area, and reading area. The tents and deck areas are ideal for those looking to relax during their vacation.
On the evenings, guests are invited to relax by the camp fire which casts a warm orange glow. There is silence apart from the sounds of the river and the forest.
Sitting under the skies, the stars shine brightly and the moon provides a gentle glow to the water nearby. In wet season, firefliesโ dances and delight.


Food & Drinks
Meals and drinks are served in a unique, four-storey thatched and open plan lodge, constructed beside the river with magnificent views across the river and downstream. Three meals a day โ full English breakfast with fruit salad and cereal, a light salad and cheese-based lunch and a three-course dinner โ are all included in the price.
Meals are made onsite from local produce, and the chefs are happy to accommodate various dietary requirements. Tea and coffee are available throughout the day and there is a well-stocked bar offering beers and minerals, spirits and wines.
Things To Do
Guests at Bua River Lodge can choose from a variety of activities during their stay, such as nature walks, walking safaris, hiking, and birding.
Bua River Lodge aims to have as little impact as possible on the environment and do not concrete any of our paths, so things can be a little rough underfoot in places. If you have any concerns or mobility issues, please let us know at booking.
When To Visit
Bua River Lodge is open all year-round. However, the best time to visit the lodge is during the dry season, from May to October. This period offers excellent wildlife viewing opportunities as animals congregate around the dwelling water sources. The weather is also pleasant with clear skies and comfortable temperatures.
However, November to April (wet season) is good option if you are interested in lush green scenery, flowers, and baby animals, the rainy season is a good option, with few tourists and potentially lower rates.
